HSBC’s HR and payroll transformation story

In 2015, HSBC embarked on the most complex global HR and payroll transformation ever undertaken.

By August 2018, the main services in the HR suite went live including SAP SuccessFactors, Service Now and Oracle OBIEE analytics. As a result all employees and contractors across 65 countries now had unified access to the company HR platform.

Employees now logged in to a SaaS-based HR experience that will continually evolve with new innovations.

Within months of go live, annual performance management and compensation were conducted globally. In addition, mobile has since been added along with other new capabilities.

Payroll integration for 138,000 employees

The bank is now in a phased roll-out of SAP Employee Central Payroll in order to replace its legacy PeopleSoft platform.

Consequently, this requires integration with the core SAP Employee Central HR platform and is again, highly complex given the size of the territories involved. HSBC chose Alight | NGA HR as the partner to design and build the payroll system.

Data migration is a major project element with dedicated team. From legacy sources, we clean, reformat and update data. The result ensures a reliable data source is fed into payroll replication activity and the analytics tool to ensure accurate reporting.

The integration of UK payroll was completed in April 2019. Hong Kong followed secondly, in September 2019. Work on China and the US is underway. After that Mexico will start later in 2020.
