Unleash the power of your Workday investment

Anyone familiar with Workday knows its value, but is everyone realizing it? In its simplest form, the platform eliminates the need for multiple systems by streamlining processes for:

  • Talent and time management
  • Payroll
  • Recruiting and other HR functions

However, as with any system, users can experience challenges with Workday if they lack a solid application and change management strategy.

Exactly what these challenges are will depend on many variables.

Consequently, it is these variables that made us determined to better understand how you use the platform. In addition we wanted to find the platform’s strengths and challenges from the user perspective. As a result of this intelligence, we can now unleash the power of your Workday investment.

At the end of 2016, we surveyed over 100 HR professionals who use Workday in organizations across the globe.

The feedback was honest and open

The survey found that 72.3% of respondents reported missing a critical deadline due to poor application management.

Likewise, 74.3% have experienced non-compliance issues due to insufficient application management and/or support.

But, as any HR pro knows, non-compliance issues carry the risk of citations or fines, which raises a serious red flag.

Research summary

75% of HR Directors Opt to Outsource the Application Management of their Workday System

  • Businesses recognize they often lack the skills and time in-house needed to manage and maintain Workday
  • Failure to maintain introduces compliance risks and performance inefficiencies
  • Greater functionality and ROI can be realized with support
  • Business case for Workday application management services (AMS) is strong

Minor platform updates are released on a weekly basis and major enhancements twice annually.

The goal is to ensure customers are up to date and working on the same release of the platform. However, keeping up with this routine maintenance can be a big job.

According to our survey, almost all (95.1%) of respondents said their employees spend at least three to four days each month supporting maintenance.

The study revealed that routine Workday maintenance requires a significant time investment:

  • 95% claim three to four days’ HR resource is required a month to support Workday maintenance in-house
  • 35% spend a week or more each month
  • 75% have three to four members of staff addressing Workday maintenance
  • 79% say HR becomes responsible for the two annual major Workday updates, which distracts staff from strategic HR work

Above all, enthusiasm for the Workday platform remains high

In the coming year, 57.4% of respondents plan to implement Workday’s Talent Management module, followed by Time Management (20%) and Payroll (8.7%). In addition, 69.3% of respondents said increasing user adoption and improving employee experience were their top strategic Workday objectives.

Additionally, 23.8% would like to enable system scalability for global expansion efforts.

However, the desire to expand Workday usage and increase adoption is clear, but challenges with deadlines and support requirements also suggest the need for dedicated Workday support.
