At the end of 2016, we surveyed over 100 HR professionals who use Workday in organizations across the globe.

The feedback was honest and open

The survey found that 72.3% of respondents reported missing a critical deadline due to poor application management.

74.3% have experienced non-compliance issues due to insufficient Workday application management and/or support.

As any HR pro knows, non-compliance issues carry the risk of citations or fines, which raises a serious red flag.

Workday rolls out small platform updates on a weekly basis and major enhancements twice annually.

The goal is to ensure customers are up to date and working on the same release of the platform, but keeping up with this routine maintenance can be a big job.

According to our survey, almost all (95.1%) of respondents said their employees spend at least three to four days each month supporting Workday maintenance.

 

The study revealed that routine Workday maintenance requires a significant time investment:

  • 95% claim three to four days’ HR resource is required a month to support Workday maintenance in-house
  • 35% spend a week or more each month
  • 75% have three to four members of staff addressing Workday maintenance
  • 79% say HR becomes responsible for the two annual major Workday updates, which distracts staff from strategic HR work

This all said, enthusiasm for the Workday platform remains high

In the coming year, 57.4% of respondents plan to implement Workday’s Talent Management module, followed by Time Management (20%) and Payroll (8.7%), and 69.3% of respondents said increasing user adoption and improving employee experience were their top strategic Workday objectives.

Additionally, 23.8% would like to enable system scalability for global expansion efforts.

The desire to expand Workday usage and increase adoption is clear, but challenges with deadlines and support requirements also suggest the need for dedicated Workday support.
