'One Team’ in times of crisis – A Haiyan story, part 2
On November 8, 2013 Typhoon Haiyan made landfall on the Philippines. This is the story of how NGA’s team in the Philippines rose to the challenge, pulling together as one team and providing relief to those who were hit hardest.
On February 8, 2014, NGA took the next step in its #tuluNGAn program and visited the Gawad Kalinga Headquarters. The Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation is a Philippine-based movement that aims to end poverty for 5 million families. Our local NGA Human Resources team handed over a check amounting to PHP 300,000.00 to underpin our support.
Going forward NGA will be sponsoring home-building projects across Eastern Visayas. When asked how to further extend help, the GK team invited us to join their community-building projects across the National Capital Region.
Rhodora Cenizal, HR Manager, and her team met with Jaja Reynoso of GK Mandaluyong Branch and discussed about GK’s current projects in line with Yolanda Relief Operations, and ongoing activities.
“We don’t just build houses”, said Jaja, as she explained their effort to build 20,000 homes by June 2014, “We also teach them the values needed to sustain a good neighborhood. We chose the families from the poorest of the poor and shared with them the responsibility of establishing good relations in the spirit of ‘kapitbahayan’.”
Gawad Kalinga will be organizing the groundbreaking ceremonies for a new GK Village along Quezon City on April 12 & 13, 2014. NGA Human Resources is invited to join in and volunteer on the two-day event.
We are all happy to be a big part of the upcoming projects with Gawad Kalinga, and we surely look forward to providing our support as One Team at NGA.
