HR Administrators: Get Ready For 3 Brand-New Key Features in SuccessFactors
SAP announced 3 brand-new key features for SuccessFactors Administrators in their latest Q3 release. The 3 centers consolidate Administration, Integration and Event management new and existing features, enhancing user experience with dashboards.
As known to administrators, most new features (so-called opt-ins) are not activated through the Upgrade Center but through configuration, even sometimes on Provisioning (SuccessFactors backend only accessible to certified consultants and SAP Professional Services). This also entails Role Based Permissions adjustments and other prerequisite features such as OData and others, which means administrators must keep their instances updated.
Let’s take a closer look at what these 3 brand-new key features can offer you.
Feature 1: Administration Center
The Admin Tools already seemed to lag a little behind in design, not featuring dashboards nor offering the same user experience as the rest of the suite. Today, all this is addressed by the brand new Administration Center, with evolving features in future releases. More than a cosmetic update, it offers great insight and easy reporting on users, logins and web performance, with deep info on transactions, page views, network time, server time statistics, and alerts. Really helpful, don’t you think?
By grouping the troubleshooting information in a single place, SuccessFactors Administrators get visibility into business process status, workflows and the health and performance of your SuccessFactors application – a truly empowering tool finally at hand.
Feature 2: Integration Center
The Integration Center is a fine new feature that opens another integration door, outbound in this case. Creation of outbound interfaces is made easy by exporting data periodically into a target SFTP.
A simple wizard allows the creation of exported files for outbound interfaces. Data selection looks nice and powerful, allowing you to navigate through the entities via different paths, hence delimiting the results to your needs. Features such as multi filtering (even using regular expressions) and multi sorting, plus generating calculated fields, including if-then-else restrictions, are possible.
On the management part, scheduling periodically full or delta exports and monitoring are available. Obviously this is useful for SuccessFactors Administrators in charge of integration. The Integration Center can be an alternative to Boomi or HCI (Hana Cloud Integration), but only for easy one-way outbound interfaces. Although Subject Matter Experts may play with this feature, note that this is an advanced feature. Database knowledge and basic entity relation model concept are required if you want to make the most out of it, not to mention encryption configuration, file format or target SFTP settings.
Since exporting protected data may require specific authority’s approval, security must be ensured by delimiting access between design (no real data), runtime (real data) and monitoring; detailed audit reports reflecting classic segregation of duties is still not available, but added features will surely fill the gaps in the coming releases.
Feature 3: Event Center
SAP is overall moving their self-services into so-called intelligent services. A key component of this is the ability to react automatically or manually to events. Now you can imagine: a tool that is designed to address the alerts or event management and monitoring gap.
The Event Center is the answer to any administrator’s need to receive events based on predefined rules and settings. Subject Matter Experts can also use this feature to track employee-related actions (e.g., hire, change in manager, first-time manager). Creating suite-wide process events and notifications is now possible.
By activating these 3 brand-new key features, you help develop more effective system administrators, who are the backbone of a successful technology deployment. Building strong administration skills requires planning, training and hands-on experience.
