5 Ways to Smile when Using SAP UX
Some may remember the launch and subsequent disappearance of EnjoySAP, no prizes for guessing why! However, the chance for it to be re-born may be on the horizon.
Now could be a good time for SAP to re-introduce this initiative for HR Users, Managers and Professionals. The new SAP User Interface Development Toolkit for HTML5 or SAPUI5 on which Fiori applications are built will certainly bring the proverbial, smile, back.
Here we look at 5 ways in how SAP can make you smile again, especially with the new user interface benefiting the business community managers, employees and administrators:
1. User Experience
We have grown up with SAP enterprise software in different guises starting with the good old, and still going strong, SAPGUI onto ITS services then finally to current Web browser technology, incorporating Adobe Smart Forms for HR processes. The new user interface is not simply an evolution, but more importantly a coming together of modern web applications with SAP. By this we mean the look and feel of user interface, design, theme, navigation, etc. which SAPUI5 and Fiori bring homogeneity to internet and mobile applications.
SAP Fiori delivers the most frequent HR tasks such as Leave Request, Leave Approval, Expense approval to the user on mobile technology such as iPhone and iPads in a congruous style.
But why stop there. Many organizations have implemented SAP Interactive Forms from Adobe or e-forms into HR processes for Manager’s to initiate Organization and Position changes, Pay changes, Bonus payments, etc. which has a distinct different look and feel. There is support for mobile workers but why not consider SAPUI5 and Webdynpro development architecture which can make it possible to easily and quickly design tasks within the same UI5 framework providing more transparency and consistency across all HR processes.
‘Many cooks spoil the broth’, so the saying goes, but too many steps to transact will certainly reduce the time for other more critical work to be undertaken. To the rescue is the new development framework allowing architects and developers to build transactions in fewer steps to support HR processes.
Much time, effort and expense have been used to promote HR services within organizations for Users and Managers with ‘Lunch and Learn’ sessions, corporate emails, guides, HR hotline, etc. Users wait till the last moment to raise/action work items, and then invariably struggle with the different set of interfaces and tools. Consequently one bad experience always creates a bad service tool thereafter.
Well, all that can be changed with the new components which provide the simplicity and mobility to render any negative feedback as sour grapes.
Any user who has the ability to complete tasks wherever, whenever with the minimum amount of fuss and in the shortest period of time will be roundly satisfied. A frustration for managers in particular is that these tasks are not representative of the core role and responsibility. So to be able to action transactions quickly, on the move as well as on mobile or tablet devices such as iPhone or iPad would go a long way to impeding manager performance.
5. Business Benefit
A happy user is a productive user. The culmination of homogenous design, simplification of process, rapid adoption will increase user satisfaction leading to drastically improved productivity. The system barriers whether it be time consuming and hard to follow steps or slow performance can now be mitigated.
A user interface that can be deployed in doubly quick time, adaptable to business requirements and changes, and one that is scale-able is finally here.
